KingR on The International 2024 format and predictions for the final stage of the tournament

Former pro player Rinat “KingR” Abdullin shared his thoughts with “Team Liquid” regarding the format of The International 2024 in Dota 2, providing a deep dive into the competitive dynamics as the playoffs approached.

Before the playoffs kicked off, KingR offered his final assessment of the tournament’s controversial structure. Many fans and analysts had debated its merits, and he weighed in on the discussion:

“The format is certainly a topic of debate. However, it ultimately succeeded in identifying the top teams in this highly competitive environment. There will always be some inconsistencies; for instance, many fans were disappointed not to see the ‘spirits’ in the top eight. They had a strong following, and their absence was felt. Unfortunately, they lost two crucial series that determined their fate. In any format, if you lose twice in the playoffs, it usually means you’re out of the running for the championship title. It’s a harsh reality of the competition. Sadly, they weren’t performing at their ‘dragon’ level, which many expected from them.”

The caster also took the time to categorize the final eight participants of “The International” into three distinct groups: favorites, contenders, and what he referred to as “passengers.

” In my personal view, Team Liquid emerges as the standout favorite, even though I can’t say I’m particularly enamored with this team… When it comes to ranking the teams based on their recent performances and potential, I would arrange them as follows: favorites — Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators; contenders — Tundra Esports, Cloud9, Team Falcons, and Xtreme Gaming; and then we have the “passengers” — BetBoom Team and Aurora, who seem to be along for the ride rather than truly competing for the top spot.

The final stage of The International 2024 for Dota is set to take place from September 13 to 15 in the vibrant city of Copenhagen, Denmark. The matches will be hosted at the iconic Royal Arena.
